You know that one person you think will never come to faith? That irredeemable situation, that person whose life choices are against everything a follower of Jesus seeks. At the end of last year the Holy Spirit really challenged us to pray for those people in our community. To be honest, we probably only prayed for them specifically a handful of times, but as a church we did start joining together weekly to pray for our community, specifically for the kids and families that are involved in the neverending cycle of dysfunctionality, addiction and violence. The good news is that NOTHING, no situation, no past choices, NOTHING is irredeemable for God and we got to experience that truth last month as we celebrated the baptism of seven new believers. Dennis had a great visit to Chile to meet with Farisurfers, a Surf Church in La Sirena, Chile. They are building an amazing community of believers who love Jesus and the beach and inviting others to join them.
Dennis also shared at a Christian Leaders conference in Lota, Chile with the Free Methodist Church. It was great to see how the young leaders in that city are reaching into their communities with the good news.
We celebrated our Annual Session in February where we gathered to share what God has done in the last year in the different ministries around Costa Rica and beyond. This time together has inspired two new youth ministries to form as well as a new sports ministry.
We came to the end of our one year commitment of a monthly visit to Pavones. We have been seeking the Lord’s guidance as to next steps to see a bilingual, surfer friendly Christian Community there. Although we have made great progress building relationships and praying over the area it is evident that we need to place someone there longterm. As a family, with our local churches blessing, we will be moving to Pavones for three months in the winter. Simultaneously we will be hosting a church planting practicum to saturate that place with people ready to share the good news with surfers and invite them into community. At the end of this time we hope to see local leaders who are ready to gather together weekly and walk together towards Jesus. Before all that happens however, our family will be on the road for two months. We will be traveling over 34,000 miles, the most we have ever traveled! Please pray as there are lots of logistics between lodging (we are still looking for a place to stay in Santa Barbara from June 1-12 if anyone can host us), transportation, visas, passports, safe food and water, kids in school, adventures, meetings, sharing at conferences and churches, encouraging leaders and their families, staying healthy and paying for it all.
