HIC SVNT LEONES Summer 2025
We made it without one hiccup or major delay. Thank you for praying for us through that massive journey. What I am struck by now that we have been back in our local context after seeing and experiencing what ministry looks like on a global level on three continents, in five countries, with seven very different Christian organizations, is that the real work of the transformational gospel happens in the everyday, mundane. Where the rubber meets the road so to say, as people who follow Jesus love their neighbors. We were struck again and again at the limitless ways that this can happen, across cultures, borders, in different languages, alone or with others on a team. The creativity of how people are loving their neighbors in the name of Jesus is endless! Let’s use our holy imaginations to meet people where they are with the love of Jesus.
Sometimes we are called to go far from home. As a family, we have been called to go to the ends of the earth (the beach) and you are a part of that as well. So thank you, thank you for making it possible for us to travel around the world and encourage others to make disciples and plant churches. We couldn’t do it without you. Read on to see how much has been done because of your prayers and support.

Surf House Comunidade Crista – Florinapolis, Brasil Sergio and Kika planted this flourishing church over 10 years ago, and are feeling led to start investing in others to go plant more churches for surfers in Brasil.

Free Methodist Latin America Area Missionaries Retreat – Rio de Janeiro, Brasil We are so blessed to be a part of an organization that cares deeply for their staff and acknowledges the importance of the whole family on the mission field. We had a week of training, encouragement and fun. The kids participated in specially curated programs that addressed the unique challenges of growing up in a different culture.

Preaching for Pentecost – Santa Barbara Free Methodist Church, USA. There’s no place like home. It was a pleasure and privilege to spend Pentecost Sunday with our home church family and get to share about what God is doing in Costa Rica.

Ohana House – Yilan, Taiwan This international, interorganizational group of surfers who love Jesus are using surfing to build relationships with nonbelievers and inviting them into a discipling community that is starting to look like a church. It was so good to walk with them through our own story of church planting and encourage them to continue to love each other and love others.

Daily prayer with staff at Anugerah Surf and Dive Resort – Rote Island, Indonesia 10 days of area strategic planning meetings with Surf Church Collective. Getting to catch up and be in the same room with the people we are moving forward with to see the beaches lit up with new churches is invaluable. Sharing our struggles and triumphs, and planning for the future.

Three generations of disciples representing at the Christian Surfers International Gathering – Bali, Indonesia. As one of the keynote speakers at this gathering Dennis shared about making disciples and his message was backed up by this contingency from Costa Rica. With over 250 people from 27 nations it was great to get to reconnect with the Christian Surfers World and reminded us that we are not alone in wanting to see the surf community reached. We look forward to see what God will do with all the new friends and partners we made during our time there. Pray
We are going nowhere without prayer. Pray for the existing works and for the Holy Spirit to continue to work in people’s hearts where there are still no surfer-friendly churches. Pray especially for Pavones and our family in our time there. Although God has made it clear that He wants us to go and we have a plan to start meeting weekly for bible study, sharing and a meal we are not sure what He wants us to “do”. We are feeling a bit at a loss but trusting God that as we are obedient He will be faithful, as He always is. Pray for spiritual protection as well, Pavones feels heavy and dangerous.
Share
Share the vision with others, we are looking for more partners and contacts of people who want to start Surf Churches, if you know people who may be interested or have a beach community close to their heart that doesn’t have a surfer-friendly church please have them get in contact with us.
Give
Consider giving a one-time donation or increasing your monthly giving to help us cover the cost of our temporary move to Pavones and upcoming trip to Puerto Viejo.
- Rent for 3 months: $6000
